The mirror function of the mother's dace is what makes possible the first meaningful encounter between tthe child and the adult. The mother's body and face serve as a container that receives the raw emotions of the child and transforms them. When the child is deprived of this quality of the mother, he/she is desperately in search of an object to cling to. In the clinical case we have discussed, the adolescent had been deprived of his mother?s attention in his early childhood and has developed a dependency on the virtual onjects through the use of the internet. However these objects allowed to a certain extent a human communication and offered a transitional space between his fantasies and the real world.
