In this work it is intended to investigate the depression of chronically ill adolescents. There is a restricted literature on this area. Depression of the adolescents lies in the loss of their childhood and their love objects. Specifically body image and relationship with parents may be main areas of concerns for chronically ill adolescents. Latest literature suggests that, chronic illness accompanying to this mourning process may result to depression. Furthermore parental divorce strongly contributes to their depression. The adolescent perceives the parents during and after the process of divorce as neglectful. The clinical case of K. is presented as an example for the combination of adolescence, chronic illness and parental divorce process. K. having Type 1 diabetes suffers from failure in school. His chronic illness has implications on his body image due to regular insulin injections damages on the skin. Besides, his parents were in the process of problematic divorce. All these complications during his early adolescence caused a depression in him. The clinician explains his work with K. in the light of his counter-transference and discusses each contributor the of K.?s depression. The researcher also discusses his music teacher?s contribution to K.?s psychological well being by involving him to the school chorus. Thus the writer of this study stresses the need for teacher having a psychoanalysis for themselves to improve the quality of their work as teachers as it was suggested by Anna Freud in her 1935 book: ?Psychoanalysis for parents and teachers?.
